Major Larry Thorne was a Lodge Act Soldier who previously
served in the Finnish Army. He fought the Russians in the
Finnish - Soviet War of 1938-1939. He went on to serve in the
U.S. Army Special Forces.
Larry Thorne was awarded the Mannerheim Cross Fourth Class.
The Lodge Act was passed by Congress in 1951 to encourage
Eastern European citizens to join the U.S. military.
