On February 19, 1968, Fred Zabitosky was with a nine-man reconnaissance patrol observing the Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos. His team was engaged in a fierce firefight and had to move to a helicopter extraction point. For his heroic actions during this firefight and in the resulting helicopter crash he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
