Special Forces uses unique, specialized equipment to conduct
their training and their operations. The SF community will often
break ground on the new equipment and then, after a period of
time, the regular conventional Army will adapt the equipment for
its training and operations. So there is a lot of commonality
among SF and conventional Army units. Listed on this page is
equipment used by both Special Forces and the conventional Army.
Maneuver Aviation Fires Integrated Application (MAFIA). The
piece of equipment will generate a precise grid coordinate to
call for indirect fire and close air support. MAFIA allows small
units to call for indirect fire or CAS. MAFIA is a fire support
application that allows Fire Supporters at the company level or
maneuver small unti leaders to accurately locate a target and to
then engage that target with indirect fire, close air support,
or attack aviation.
