| In October 2017 four members of the
				3rd Special 
				Forces Group were killed during an ambush of a ODA patrol 
				with a partner nation unit in Niger by a militant jihadist 
				group. The incident caused a furor within the media, Congress, 
				and American public - with many questioning why the ODA was on a 
				combat mission in Africa and the lack of support provided to the
