Part of the Special Forces that is very famous but which
little is known is the U.S. Army's Delta Force. This specialized
elite unit of Special Forces Soldiers conducts some of the most
dangerous missions around the world. The formal name for Delta
Force is the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment D.
The creation of Delta Force was in response to the outbreak
of a new age of terrorism in the 1970s. A unit was needed that
could rapidly respond to terrorist incidents around the world.
Delta would later be a part of the Joint Special Operations
Command (JSOC).
