				 The Office of Strategic Services or OSS was the forerunner of 
				the U.S. Army Special Forces (USSF) and the Central Intelligence 
				Agency (CIA). The OSS was formed during World War II to provide 
				the United States with an organizaton that could perform 
				intelligence and unconventional warfare operations in all 
				theaters of the war. One of its units was called "Detachment 101". This unit 
				served in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theater conducting 
				long-range reconnaissance and special operations. On 
				April 14, 1942 (1), Detachment 101 was activated for service in 
				Asia. It was formed under the Office of the Coordinator of 
				Information (COI) just weeks before the COI became the Office of 
				Strategic Services (OSS). References
